Hello Neighbors,

As many of you may have noticed the Marlboro Highway Department has placed “ROAD CLOSED” signs on Marlboro’s dirt roads.  TO CLARIFY, these signs mean that the roads are closed to THRU TRAFFIC in an effort to keep heavy vehicles from using Marlboro’s dirt roads as a “SHORT CUT”, rather than driving a little farther and staying on PAVED ROADS.

MARLBORO RESIDENTS ARE NOT PROHIBITTED FORM USING THE ROADS TO GET TO AND FROM THEIR HOMES.

Again, the ROAD CLOSED signs are meant for THRU TRAFFIC, not RESIDENTS who live/work in Marlboro.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING:  It is “MUD SEASON”, and big, heavy trucks and vehicles can churn up the roads creating RUTS and impassible conditions for Marlboro Residents who use the roads to get to and from their homes.  These heavy vehicles can also get stuck in the MUDDY CONDITIONS creating even more damage to the roads and cause the roads to be closed to all vehicles while the vehicles are “towed out”.

The Highway Department would also like to strongly ask people to NOT MOVE THE ROAD CLOSED SIGNS!!  They have been placed so that those big/heavy vehicles are advised that road conditions are such that they could damage the roads or even get stuck.  A resident’s smaller vehicle should be able to navigate around the sign.  If there is a problem please reach out to the Highway Department who can adjust the location of the sign (text & cell phone number is available on the Town’s Municipal Directory on the website. https://marlborovt.us/government/municipal-directory/ .

SO PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! DO NOT MOVE THE SIGNS!!!!  ONE WAS MOVED ON WEDNESDAY, RESULTING IN A BIG BOX TRUCK TO GET STUCK ON ADAMS BROOK ROAD, CLOSING THE ROAD TO ALL TRAFFIC FOR EIGHT HOURS.

Thank you all for your patience and attention to this matter, and as happens every year, MUD SEASON will pass in a couple of weeks, and everything will  return to normal.

THE MARLBORO HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
