9/22/25 – UPDATE:
Ames Hill Road Update
Please be advised that much of the major work by GMP on Ames Hill road has been completed. Over the next two weeks, through Friday, 10/3/25, GMP will be working along the side of the road finishing up the electrical work. In addition there will be extensive grading of the road, please be aware this may cause some delays. Please pay attention to “flaggers” and do not try to “squeeze” by the grader unless directed that it is safe to pass.
If you wish to avoid any inconveniences, please continue to use the established detours and alternate routes (outlined in previous updates).
The Marlboros Highway department knows that this work has increased the levels of “road dust” and the Highway Ddpartment appreciates your patience. Once the grading has been completed, the Highway Department will be out treating the road to “knock down the dust”.
Again, the Department greatly appreciates your patience.
Your Marlboro Highway Department.
Potential detours could be Fox Road to MacArthur Road to Route 9, or using Cowpath 40, travel away from Ames Hill, and use one of the alternative roads available to reach the Town Center or head towards Brattleboro.
For those heading to Brattleboro, the best routes would be going to South Road and then taking Route 9 down to Brattleboro. Two other routes (depending on where a closure may occur, would be to take Cowpath 40 away from Ames Hill all the way down to the paved road, and then heading onto Brattleboro (note using Barrows Road to connect with Ames Hill may run into GMP work on the Brattleboro portion of Ames Hill), or use the Fox Road to MacArthur to Route 9 detour.
Also, please note that road side ditching, pole erection, and other line work is still occuring which may cause single lane traffic to be necessary (in this situation, “flag people” will direct you).
We thank you for your continued patience during this project to increase Marlboro’s electrical grid resiliency.
The road work will occur between 7am and 5pm, and Ames Hill will be passable to traffic after 5pm and before 7am.
Continue to monitor this space for more updates and the Town thanks you for your patience during this period.
